Coaching Career Before Green Bay
LaFleur entered the NFL coaching ranks in 2008, hired by the Houston Texans as an offensive assistant. He held that role through the 2009 season before moving on to other opportunities.
In 2014, he returned to college football as quarterbacks coach at the University of Notre Dame. During that season, he tutored senior quarterback Everett Golson, who threw for 3,445 yards and 29 touchdowns.
LaFleur then joined the Atlanta Falcons as quarterbacks coach, a role he filled from 2015 to 2016. In 2016, quarterback Matt Ryan led the league with a 117.1 passer rating and was named the AP NFL Most Valuable Player, a season shaped in part by his work with LaFleur.
Head Coach of the Green Bay Packers
On January 8, 2019, LaFleur was named the 15th head coach in Green Bay Packers history, replacing Mike McCarthy, whose tenure had ended after a 6–9–1 record in 2018. His first season immediately signaled a shift: the Packers finished 13–3, a plus-seven win improvement that represented the largest single-year turnaround in franchise history. He also became the first head coach in Green Bay history to take the team to the playoffs in his debut season.
Under LaFleur, quarterback Aaron Rodgers won back-to-back NFL MVP awards in 2020 and 2021. After Rodgers was traded to the New York Jets in 2023, LaFleur guided Jordan Love to a playoff appearance in Love’s first season as a full-time starter.
LaFleur’s record at home has been among the best in the league since 2019. The Packers posted a 43–15 regular-season record (.741) at home over that span, second-best in the NFL, highlighted by a 15-game home winning streak from 2020 to 2022, the third longest in team history.
In December games from 2019 to 2023, the Packers won 16 consecutive contests under LaFleur, the longest December winning streak by a head coach in NFL history and second longest by any team in history, behind the San Diego Chargers’ 18-game streak from 2006 to 2009.
